Mark Kozelek

I went to Mark Kozelek's show at Great American this week. Good show. His lyrics and vocals reminded me of the most sad and bittersweet moments of my life, the lonely moments after final goodbyes, waiting for trains in the middle of the night.

New Star Wars LEGO Sail Barge and Star Destroyer

StarWars.com announced this week that the there are brand new lego models coming this year - Sail Barge and Star Destroyer are Cruising Soon. We've seen a number of new versions of previous ships recently, but these are some of the first brand new Classic models in a long time. Really looking forward to Jabba's Barge. It'll be neat to have it side-by-side with my Sandcrawler. I'd still like to see some sort of mini-figure Deathstar though.

Wholphin DVD

I started watching my copy of the latest 826 Valencia project, Wholphin. I really like the Miranda July & Miguel Arteta short for it's surreal tenderness. But the most amazing thin I've watched so far was the footage of the Gore family by Spike Jonze. Really interesting stuff and definitely made me think of might-have-beens. It's the sort of stuff that makes Gore in to a real person, and a likeable and admirable one at that. I'm not sure it's the stuff that would have convinced Republicans to vote Gore, but it might have roped in a few more Nader supports.

The Accurate Onion

Look to The Onion for Accurate War Coverage
Strange to see the Nation writing about accidental accuracy of the Onion, in it's story on troops making up their own exit strategy. It certainly makes me re-think the real possibilities of just getting the troops the heck out of Dodge. I'm now pretty much of the opinion that it couldn't make things any worse then they already are in Iraq.

PulpHope: The Art Of Paul Pope

I listened to this excellent Podcast interview with Paul Pope today on CGS. He talked a bit about his Batman: Year 100 that I've blogged about before here and here, and he also talked a lot about his back ground in fine arts and art history. He also talked a bit about the relationship between art, ethics, and the responsibilities of doing work for hire. Interesting stuff, and well worth a listen. It reminded me to pre-order a copy of his forth-coming art book
PulpHope: The Art Of Paul Pope. I'm looking forward to getting this hopefully sometime in June.

Puppy poo girl

I just read about the Puppy poo girl. It's a very "Only in Korea" story, but it even has a write-up on wikipedia already and a Washington Post article. It's sort an "Any publicity is good publicity" story, but also very telling about the conflict between the value of style, status and importance, and the strength of social conformity.
