Kickball Kaos
It was another most-excellent day of kickball on Sunday. For a change the sun was actually was out. We got in two games with some pretty even teams and some awesome catches. Then a group of us met-up at Casanova. Wildness ensued.

Lockjaw the Alligator
The Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center website launched today on what would have been his 88th birthday. Here's a funny animal strip he drew in 1947. Even in something like this you can see evidence of his amazing story-telling ability.

NPR : Army Specialist Was First Md. Woman Killed in Iraq
These reports on the rememberance of soldiers killed in Iraq usually get to me, but this one hit especially hard. It just blows my mind that this young woman can be home celebrating with here family in Baltimore one week and dead in Iraq the next. What are we doing letting all these young people die for? It makes me feel like I could be doing something more to register my dis-approval of this war.

Dodge wrote a bit on the band Mahjongg today, so I took a listen and was blown away by this instrumental. It's almost painful to listen to, but at the same time amazingly beautiful. I think I'm sold

Burning Man: Preparation : Gerlach Live Webcam
Getting ready to head up to Black Rock City again this year. Should be a stupendous year. My brother is already up there supervising the building of the maze that will surround the Man Temple. My sister is going to come up as well this year, plus some friends from LA. Then last night I just found out an old friend from high school will be up there.

It's good to see comic book writers get some semi-mainstream press coverage, well The Onion at least. These guys are two of my favorite writers right now. Brian's doing amazing work with "Y: The Last Man" & "Ex Machina" and Geoff is kicking butt all over DC, though my soft spot is for his JSA work.

This works particularly well with users, because every user wants to feel special. They want to believe that fact that they canÂt figure out some simple stupid little thing out for themselves is the computers fault not their own.

Bruce/Warren - I AM BATMAN
Okay, I'm one of the people that got this gag and loved it. Sad isn't it.
gutterninja » I Apologize If This Gag Is Inaccessible; Also, I’m Probably Not The First To Think Of It
[BAT SIGNAL]The Other…Hurts
Yes, I’ve already seen the article about the fathers’-rights guy climbing up the wall of Buckingham Palace dressed as me. I didn’t need 300 copies of it. Stop sending it to me, before I sic my dog on you. (I have one, you know. He wears a mask.)
I’m about halfway through busting the Penguin and just started on an idea for the Cluemaster. I’m not sure if it’ll be a black-cape, spooky thing or a blue-cape, Sci-Fi Closet thing. I may just scrap the investigation and use what I’ve got so far to track down the Riddler instead. There’s also the League Thing, but I can’t say any more about that just yet.

My friend Becky took me to this very cool resturant in Miami, not at all what I was expecting and very funky and down to earth. The food was excellent and the night we were there the had some amazing drumming and music in cellebration of an important date in the fight for Haitian independence.

Miami, FLA
I did a whirlwind trip down to Miami for work this week, down on Sunday and back on Monday. It was my first time there and I wasn't sure what to expect. The Art Deco was spectacular even after Naiper and I definitely want to go back. My friend Becky from High School lives down there now and it was great to see her again, going out for dinner and seeing some of the sights. Ah! If I didn't have to go into the office... Next time.

FBTB.net: The LEGO Star Wars Experience
Found this amazing Lego Star Wars site the other day. Damn! That some serious building, but it is inspiring. There some interviews with official Lego Master Builders as well and that's just another huge step-up.

What They're Listening to in Antarctica This Summer
LastFM :: Antarctica
I've been playing around with this site, as just sort of a way to keep track of what I'm listen to and posting it on the blog as "Now Playing". But I love the stats too. Doesn't everyone want to know what the hot artists are in Antarctica are this summer?

Kupek a.k.a. The Amazing Bryan Lee O'Malley
I've been listening to Warren Ellis' Superburst mixtapes since he started doing them and the one track I kept finding myself craving was by this artist Kupek, but I really had no idea what the group was. Imagine my surprise when Kupek turned out to be the band name of Bryan Lee O'Malley, the comic book guy responsible for Scott Pilgram. Still haven't read his comic book work, but if it's half as good as his music, it must totally rock. The other nice thing he's doing is making his music available via bit torrent. Very cool. Thanks Brian!

The Rise and Fall of the Monkey King
El Gato Theatre - The Rise and Fall of the Monkey King
Last night I went and saw this play that my step-sister is doing. Its' vrey silly and campy, but at the same time trying to artistic and political. The dance numbers were probably the best part though.

Inspiring! What a way to recycle all the cardbord that abounds, though I must say I'm not as impressed by the dash.

Take Your Girlie To The Movies (If You Can't Make Love At Home)
I downloaded this mp3 and was amazed at how racey is was for 1919. Then I was reading something this weekend that was comparing the 1920's to the 60's, saying that the ideas of sexual freedom weren't really new, just newly spread to the masses.

Born Into Brothels
Born Into Brothels
I watched this movie last night and was completely blown away, inspired to do more, be more, to make a bigger difference. The Academy Award winning documentary from last year follows a group of children, the children of sex workers, growing in one of Calcutta's notorious red-light district and given the opportunity to study photography. They get this chance from a Western woman who originally wanted to just take picture of the everyday lives in the neighborhood, but by living there became sucked into the children's curiosity. But the movie stays focused on the children and their efforts to try to build a future for themselves outside of the cycles of poverty, violence and drug addiction. It's heartbreaking and just a small snapshot of the plight of so many children in the world, smart and hopeful, but trapped in their circumstances. But even as some of the children become sucked back into the neighborhood, a few are able to affect real change in their lives and that left me hopeful and inspired to something more in my own community. It's a powerful movie that can do something like that.
